I have been dealing with being on the streets of San Francisco for the last seven years.
It seems like the veterans are finally getting some respect and maybe my ordeal will end soon.
The Education that I have received in the streets is going to be part of my thinking forever now.
The latest solutions to pair dogs with the homeless is nice but hardly a solution and kind of demeaning when they believe that these citizens do not have more to offer.
The First thing that needs to be addressed is getting that citizen an SRO above any other plans and until San Francisco builds a decent domicile like HVRP in Menlo Park to take care of the flood of baby boomers ending up on the streets that find San Francisco the end of the road. This would be better than care not cash when SROs are treated like units that are earned for living at the domicile and showing motivation and having to set short and long term goals. The Shelters now are an archaic joke from he’ll that warehouses citizens.
This is hardly what San Francisco is capable of doing just because of the POLITICAL SCENE and the need to be so damn politically correct that it missed the point.
This city has taken in many different cultures in the last fifty years because it is liberal and inclusive.
THE CITY needs to open their arms and embrace this, I have no room to be bitter about anything like the fact that homeless seniors are treated differently by race in this city now and that must stop. I am sick of watching citizens scrounge for a living knowing the wealth is all around them in the Financial District. I have been down here for awhile.
I see the future that Rose Pak sees in many respects with more of an emphasis on SROs and domicile projects to support them and help to filter clientele and assurance that the SROs will not suffer the fate of the drug dealers like what has happened to THC and TNDC to bring down their reputation. That is when care not cash becomes a nightmare.
CCDC has built an impressive non profit that has SROs at cut rate prices that work in the tight budgets of seniors on stipends.
The reason is they are not bogged down in litigation and tenants that need eviction. They also have a better return for their money when it comes to maintenance and repair. Gordon Chin did well. I ask why can’t the SROs be managed like this with the assistance of covenant law.
of This is how Operation Dignity cleaned up the Aztec on 8th in Oakland.
So much can be done other than the lame policy of Master Leasing that only enriches slumlords.
I was born here when Eisenhower was president and this wasn’t an issue then because America functioned then.
Sure would love to have the opportunity to make a difference when I get my housing soon I will be very grateful and motivated to advocate BIG TIME.
I see it this way I realized I have that political connection that will end my nightmare and want to be working on some project that may just help change archaic policy.
Imagine working for twenty to thirty years and succumbing to dementia just to find a safety net that has been OCCUPIED BY ADDICTS for the years you were working and they have tenure in the system.
It is a SAFETY NET NOT A HAMMOCK.
How can this city possibly take care of the boomers that will be needing assistance without setting up a peer network to assist.
The city just digs deeper when no investment is made. Even broke ass Oakland has a green shelter. San Francisco has the money it is the policy and politics of NIMBYism and hate that impedes progress.
