Right to a Roof

Join us on January 29 for the Amazing Runaround!

The Right to a Roof Workgroup struggles to reform San Francisco's shelter system into a place that is humane, accessible, and welcoming, and where homeless people may swiftly move into permanent, safe, affordable housing. The workgroup conducts outreach to homeless people residing in shelters and resource centers to gather input on our agenda. Currently, we are working on resisting cuts to homeless programs that San Franciscans rely on, and reforming the shelter access process.

Check out our newly released report The Runaround: An Examination of San Francisco's Byzantine Shelter Reservation System (9.5 MB PDF) and our 2007 report Shelter Shock: Abuse, Cruelty, and Neglect in San Francisco's Shelter System (1.4 MB PDF).

Right now, the Right to a Roof Workgroup is working to transform the shelter access sytem in San Francisco. Read our Fact Sheet on the Shelter Reservation System in San Francisco (120 KB PDF) and our Recommendations to Transform Shelter Access in San Francisco (80 KB PDF).

Our Right to a Roof Organizer is Jennifer Friedenbach. Jenny can be reached at 415.346.3740 x306, or r2ar@cohsf.org.

Meetings are every Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at our office at 468 Turk Street, between Hyde and Larkin.
